One of the more pleasurable tasks in my year as President has been to attend dinners at other Local Law Societies. I had the pleasure of attending the Worthing Local Law Society dinner on 9th March 2012 and subsequently the Sussex Law Society Annual Dinner and Ball on 27th April 2012.
I very much enjoyed attending both of these events. The Worthing Local Law Society dinner was attended by other Local Law Society Presidents. The guest of honour was Tim Loughton, MP for East Worthing and Shoreham, who also happens to be the Minister for Children. The guest speaker was Her Honour Judge Coates, a well respected family law judge with particular specialism in children’s law. Her speech concerning proposed government changes to the adoption system was particularly interesting.
The Sussex Law Society dinner was attended by a large number of people and took place at Brighton and Hove Albion’s football ground. Having not attended this venue before, I was impressed by the scale of the ground. The dinner was followed by a ball. Interestingly, the evening was more informal from other Law Society dinners, in that there was no official guest speaker. The event was, however, extremely well supported and it was a very enjoyable evening.
