The second committee meeting of the year took place on 28th March 2012.
The first meeting of the conveyancing sub-committee has now taken place. Amongst the items discussed were the decision taken by HSBC to limit its panel of solicitors and also the Conveyancing Quality Scheme. Most members felt that this had been a very successful innovation by the Law Society and there has been a very good take up to the scheme, with most firms in the area now being members.
I outlined at the meeting my hope that we could establish other sub-committees in due course. The next goal is to establish a private client sub-committee, so that private client lawyers can meet regularly to discuss practice issues.
I confirmed that I will be attending the national gathering of Local Law Society Presidents and Secretaries in London in May.
