Committee Meeting

Committee Meeting in the Goodwood Room at Thomas Eggar in Chichester. The first meeting as President and thus the first one that I had to chair! All committee members present save for Julian Bobak. Went well with Caroline De Vries also raising the possibility of holding a free breakfast seminar at Pallant House Gallery with Anthony Nicholson speaking on “Gifts, Property and Art Donations to Charities”. New member applications approved and real progress made in trying to establish a website for the Chichester & District Law Society.

Sussex Combined Law Society meetings

The first of two Sussex Combined Law Society meetings at the Shelley’s Hotel, Lewes. Very informative as not only were other local law society presidents, vices and secretaries in attendance but also the Council Member for Kent and the Regional Manager of the Law Society for the South East. Valuable insight and material handed out to be passed down though the committee with regard to the proposed sea of change. There was a brief overview of the proposed changes in the regulatory framework and discussion following the Jackson Report on litigation funding. The Regional Manager also highlighted initiatives being taken by Chancery Lane to assist members with the complexities of the rules on money laundering in addition to the difficulties facing smaller firms with their renewals of professional indemnity insurance and whether or not there should be a move to stagger the renewal dates. Alternative Business Structures were also a moot point and proposed Land Registry closures.
